How We’re Dealing With COVID-19

With a pandemic that has uprooted many of our community member’s daily lives, The Big Event Tallahassee team has been working tirelessly to find a solution that allows our volunteers to experience some normalcy with in-person service, while simultaneously keeping them safe.

Our resolution includes implementing a new system that The Big Event has never seen before: offering BOTH in-person and virtual service opportunities! Each service site will be limited to a certain number of volunteers to ensure that social distancing guidelines can be followed. The rest of our volunteers will be given virtual service opportunities that they will have approximately 2 weeks to complete. These opportunities can be completed from anywhere! Participants will have the option to choose between virtual and in-person service upon registration; however, in-person service cannot be guaranteed to all who sign up for it.

Our in-person volunteers will be required to wear masks at all times throughout the duration of their service, and are encouraged to frequently sanitize their hands. Limited sanitizer stations will be available.

In previous years, we have asked volunteers to gather in the Civic Center before departing to their sites; this year, a Zoom link will be sent out to ALL participants in order to avoid gatherings of large crowds. Volunteers are expected to depart to their service site from their own residences immediately following the conclusion of the kickoff.
